CPC was pleased to sponsor the SEN Provision Award at last month's Education Business Awards in London, with Southampton's Cedar School among the evening's worthy winners.
In the shadow of St. Paul's Cathedral, CPC’s Managing Director, Darren Lowe, was on hand to help present the award itself, which had a remit to celebrate an SEN institution that could “demonstrate an increase in the education services and care provided” to children with special educational needs.
With Buckinghamshire’s Stony Dean School, Northampton’s Red Kite Special Academy and London’s Holmewood School all commended nominees, the SEN Provision prize winner was the Cedar School in Hampshire, who strive to support, educate and inspire pupils, aged 3-16.
Under the guidance of headteacher Neil Revell, the Cedar School promotes five hopes for all of its pupils, with Communication, Empowerment, Discovery, Aspiration and Resilience (CEDAR) established as central to the school’s efforts to help them succeed in their formative years.
The Southampton institution works alongside the Solent Careers Hub to deliver careers education and has established a cohort of companies who are positive to learn about what SEND pupils can bring to their organisations and ready to accommodate their particular needs.
This progressive relationship not only teaches the pupils about careers, it helps put them on new and diverse pathways, allowing the Cedar School’s influence to endure beyond the years of attendance.
Winners were determined for more than 20 different categories in total, with a number of CPC members taking home prizes, including Our Lady and Saint Benedict Catholic Academy (Outstanding Progress - Primary School), Lawley Village Academy (Community Award) and Nexus Multi Academy Trust (School Procurement Award).
The event at the five-star Leonardo Royal Hotel St. Paul’s was hosted by the television presenter and broadcast journalist Ashley John-Baptiste, whose experiences of a challenging childhood paved the way to a promising media career, including appearances on BBC’s The One Show.
