CPC is a leader in the public procurement space... but what is procurement anyway? The new episode of No Ordinary Day in Procurement: The CPC Podcast sees us go back to basics, with this recap, or introduction for new members, now live. 🎙️

Our guest for Episode 7 of The CPC Podcast is Nigel Dexter, a Procurement Manager at Crescent Purchasing Consortium and part of our Crescent Consultancy wing, supporting education establishments and public sector clients from his hometown of Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire, a place known predominantly for its historic contributions to the emerging iron and steel industry.

As CPC's own man of steel, Nigel manages multiple procurement professionals in his day-to-date role, helping facilitate quality service delivery for various clients in the UK education and housing sectors, driving superior value and better buying outcomes.

Equally familiar with a few irons, scratch player Nigel has also served as President of Scunthorpe's 117-acre Normanby Hall Golf Course, while working at Crescent Purchasing Consortium, striving to ensure our procurement prowess stays par for the course.

Arriving at CPC as Procurement Consultant in early 2018, Nigel would take on his present managerial position in 2022, adding experience from near-18 years at North Lincs Council, encompassing purchasing advice, tendering projects and VFM reporting.

In this bitesize, 20-minute conversation, Nigel tells podcast host Jack Horton about the Managed Services (North) team he now heads up, as well as sharing the seemingly common circumstances that sent his career veering in the direction of procurement.

As for a typical day as a Crescent Consultant? Well, there's No Ordinary Day in Procurement, as we know. But, this new episode explores some of the aspects of Nigel's work and function within procurement support, offering members potential inspiration, as they look to enhance their purchasing capability (and regulatory compliance) heading towards a brand-new academic year...

Meanwhile, Nigel is the latest CPC Podcast guest to share one of the more unusual procurements he encountered in his career, affirming the idea of there being No Ordinary Day in Procurement, while illustrating the scope of items which may be acquired.
