CPC to address Communities of Practice

Published

By Ashley Cox

Continuing CPC's commitment to supporting the sector with the new Procurement Act, our Learning & Development Lead, Mark Pearson, will be leading two of the Government Commercial Function's 'Communities of Practice' meet-ups, this June.

With Procurement Act 2023 now an everyday reality for public purchasing in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, Mark will be on hand to share advice on getting the basics right, helping ensure a smoother transition to the obligations of the new regime.

Those attending the free, 90-minute Communities of Practice sessions can expect informed discussion of the following threads.

• Analysing your organisational spend

• Building your organisation’s contract register

• Developing work plans and knowing when to delegate

• How Procurement Act 2023 impacts on how you might have done this in the past

Having worked extensively to help institutions prepare for February's go-live date, Mark has been the driving force behind a number of CPC's Procurement Act learning and development resources, empowering education professionals with his expert knowledge and knowhow, both virtually and in person, as well as compiling our dedicated, detailed Procurement Act Portal.

An Advanced Practitioner of Procurement Act 2023, Mark brings no fewer than 35 years of experience working in procurement, including 15 in the public sector, and has sat on CPC's Procurement Advisory Group (PAG), as well as developing our spin-off 'PAG Presents' concept, expanding the array of learning and development accessible to over 10,000 registered CPC members.

Having represented CPC at the inaugural Education Business LIVE convention and been part of a co-promoted CPC/Inspiring Leaders event, Communities of Practice continues Mark's efforts to highlight our Procurement Act support offer in 2025, with the Government Commercial Function's selection of Mark as a CoP speaker affirming the quality of his knowledge and advice.

Communities of Practice itself is an idea intended to embed learning, providing stakeholders with a platform of Procurement Act support from their peers, while facilitating the reflection on and development of best practice related to the fledgling Act.

Launched by the UK Government in May 2024, upcoming Communities of Practice events will host discussion of exclusions, diverse approaches in contract management and key changes on standard contracts, before Mark takes centre stage in June.
