We are thrilled to announce that we will be sponsoring the Walking Dead artist, Charlie Adlard as the UK’s new Comics Laureate. We will be sponsoring Charlie alongside Lancaster University for the two years he is in post.
The Comics Laureate is an ambassadorial and educational role for the comic genre. His main aim is to raise awareness of the impact comics can have increasing literacy from school age right up to Adult Education. Charlie will work with schools, educators and the comics community to unlock the potential of comics as a tool for learning and creativity. This is something that we feel extremely passionately about and are delighted to be supporting these aims by sponsoring Charlie.
Managing Director, Peter Brewer said:
“I have a lifetime love of comics as a superb art form. Hearing of comic’s artist Charlie Adlard’s aim under his tenure of the new Comics Laureate, it struck an immediate chord with me as something which CPC could get involved with to support a worthwhile educational cause. I also felt that this would be of great interest to many of our members particularly as they are his target audience. His position as a creator of something so popular as The Walking Dead as a comic and TV series also adds lots of additional interest and we are proud to be supporting such a fantastic project.”
Charlie is also known for his work on the first X-Files comic book spin-off and his creator owned project, Astronauts in Trouble. He was appointed after a rigorous nomination and voting process. He was delighted that we will be sponsoring him and said:
"It is fabulous that CPC will be working with us to demonstrate the power of comics to encourage learning and a passion for reading.”
Throughout the two years in post Charlie will be attending a number of educational visits, workshop events, guest appearances and conferences. If you’d like to find out more information about this, please contact Carole at [email protected].
