The biennial review of UK VAT-inclusive procurement thresholds for sub-central contracting authorities has recently taken place, with new figures for Supplies/Services, Light Touch and Works in 2026-27.
It is important to remember the procurement thresholds across the public sector change on 1st January each even-dated year.
This time, the thresholds above which the Procurement Act applies across the wider education sector* reduce, ever so slightly.
The thresholds should be referenced in your Financial Regulations or Standing Orders - thus now is the time to update these.
*Please note that, being within the education sector, our members benefit from the Schools Exemption, with below-threshold 'regulation' (ss. 84-88 of the Procurement Act) subsequently not mandated.
From 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2027, the new thresholds will be...
Supplies & Services: £207,720
Light Touch: £663,540
Works: £5,193,000
We are currently in the process of updating guidance within our Crescent Learning platform, which offers CPC members a revamped resource of procurement learning and development guidance and information
Our members should review and amend their Financial Regulations to reflect these revised thresholds and (where in place) Procurement Policies, cascading this information down to those with delegated spend/budget holders.
If you need any further advice in relation to the revised procurement thresholds, we encourage you to reach out to your Regional Procurement Advisor, who will be more than happy to assist with this and other procurement issues.
