The Mystery Shopper Service investigates and addresses concerns raised about public sector procurements (including those carried out by colleges, schools and academies) and undertakes spot checks of procurement processes and documentation. From 26 May 2015 the scheme has been given a statutory basis for its procurement investigations.
Concerns are mainly raised by suppliers about the conduct of a procurement process and those concerns are submitted to the Crown Commercial Service who investigate and publish their findings on the Mystery Shopper Results page. The results of the investigations do provide some valuable insight into some of the pitfalls in procurement and are useful to avoid making the same mistakes.
