Support for students studying at home from Library Resources Suppliers

Published

By Lisa O'Shea

Considering the current situation we all find ourselves in at present and the difficulties institutions may be having with closed libraries and limited access to print materials, suppliers on the Library Resources Framework Lot 1: Library Books and Lot 2: Library E-books have provided CPC with an update of what they are doing in order to help member institutions out at a time of social isolation.

We have received correspondence from Askews and Holts, Browns Books for Students and EBSCO following discussions with their publishing partners:

Askews and Holts

  • For participating publishers - all owned eBook licenses will transfer to unlimited access until the end of June 2020.

  • Participating publishers are also offering unlimited access for all new purchases, irrespective of model selected. These agreements have been put in place with over 300 publishers to date and Askews are continuing dialogue with all other partners to expand the offer.

Browns Books for Students

  • All print material deliveries to institutions have been temporarily placed on hold until government guidelines around social isolation change.

  • Browns can ship products directly to students in their own homes and invoice the institution as usual.

  • eBook licenses have transferred to unlimited access until the end of June 2020 for participating publishers, they are also offering unlimited access for all new purchases, irrespective of model selected. These agreements have been made with over 150 publishers, and Browns are working to expand the offering through other publishers.

EBSCO

  • Are offering an upgrade to all customers’ EBSCO eBooks to provide unlimited concurrent user access until the end of June 2020.

  • Where an EBSCO eBook is available at unlimited user level, for participating publishers, EBSCO are selling the eBook at the 1 user price. Please click here for a list of those publishers in question.

  • Print book/eBook title match service. Assistance with establishing whether print holdings are available as eBooks.

  • Specifically for FE/HE institutions, EBSCO’s eBook Subscription Collection is available for libraries to access free of charge where an institution does not currently subscribe to it. This is a free benefit to institutions and access will cease after 30th June 2020. This allows access to 10,000+ books from a purpose-built collection with no restrictions on the number of concurrent users.

Should you wish to find out additional information, we recommend getting in touch with your account manager for an update of what they can do to support you through this period. CPC are confident that all suppliers on the framework will be working hard in order to assist in the continuity of study for pupils where possible, so if your current supplier has not been listed above, please get in touch with them directly to see what they can offer. It also may be beneficial to follow the library suppliers on social media to stay abreast of any updates or changes to offerings.

Should you have any queries or concerns surrounding this framework, please get in touch with Procurement Officer Lisa O’Shea on 0161 974 0947 or [email protected]
