Synthetic Sports Facilities Framework Launch

By Lisa O'Shea

We are pleased to finally announce that the Synthetic Sports Facilities framework has been launched as of 17th February 2020.

The framework covers the construction, installation, refurbishment, servicing and maintenance for all manner of external sporting facilities such as:

  • 3G pitches
  • Multi-use Games Areas (MUGAs)
  • Athletics tracks
  • Specialist courts etc.

There are 12 successful contractors on the framework, all are specialists within the sport installation or maintenance fields. It is the first framework of its type to offer such a broad breadth of cover whilst focussing solely on sport installations. Furthermore, the framework is contractor rather than manufacturer led, which allows institutions to develop a single relationship with suppliers that are able to provide the vast majority of works required, instead of with the supplier that only creates the carpet surface.

Maintenance of sport installations is of paramount importance to ensuring the longevity of the surface’s life, maximising high quality sport play time, ensuring surfaces are safe for pupils, and saving the institution money in the long term by delaying resurfacing works. Poor (or no) maintenance may shave 5 years or more off the life of an installation, so we have split the framework into two lots, with Lot 2 covering maintenance as a standalone service to highlight the importance of conscientious upkeep both in-house and outsourced. Institutions that are concerned about the quality and longevity of current installations can utilise the framework in order to ascertain what can be done in order to breathe new life into their facilities.

Usage information and more can be found on the Synthetic Sports Facilities framework page on the CPC website. Mini-competition templates are currently being worked on and will hopefully be available shortly, but in the meantime any institution who may wish to share information on their previous sports facilities requirements (in terms of quality questions in particular), please contact Lisa as per the below details. Any information shared may help to form the basis of some small sections of mini-competition templates and will assist in ensuring that the documents are fit for their intended purpose. This includes requirements for installations, refurbishments and maintenance service provisions.

Please get in touch with Lisa O’Shea – Procurement Officer – on 0161 974 0947 or [email protected] with any queries regarding the framework.
