The Big Switch is a historical change that will bring in virtual phone lines to replace the old physical (copper wired) phone lines across the UK.
This is predicted to affect up to 2 million businesses across the UK, including those in the Education Sector, many of whom are unaware of the significant impact this change will have.

Think of ISDN and PSTN as analogue TV…. Like analogue they will need to be replaced in your schools before the technology becomes obsolete in the next few years! Previously, schools have held back on migrating to IP solutions due to concerns with the quality and speed of internet connections, however VoIP and SIP will soon be the standard. Virtual phone options are cheaper than ISDN and PSTN lines which incur heavy maintenance costs associated with the actual lines and the running costs are also becoming unsustainable. Comparing the costs, scalability and flexibility from the replacement IP telephony solutions, they are highlighting how increasingly redundant copper wires have become.
