CPC framework can make each week Recycle Week

Published

By Ashley Cox

The middle of October saw the UK hold its annual Recycle Week and, with recycling a recurring area of focus, CPC lifts the lid on the Waste Management Services framework - and how it can support with recycling goals.

A highlighted option for recycling waste services forms part of one of this compliant framework's five component lots, providing an appropriate procurement pathway for member institutions in need of new recycling provisions.

If you're looking to facilitate the collection and/or disposal of your establishment's recyclable waste streams, this Waste Management Services framework could be a valuable partner, with no fewer than 14 vetted, contracted suppliers servicing a lot that can tackle dry mixed recyclables, food and green (garden and grounds), plus more.

Notably, and fittingly, this framework has had sustainability built into its specification and procurement process, with its design made to encourage its supply chain to integrate sustainability best practice, reflecting CPC's own status as a socially-conscious employer, with an in-house CPC Sustainability Group central to our ongoing efforts.

Since arriving earlier on in 2024, CPC's internal sustainability champion has brought such issues to the forefront, writing to staff about the decline in our insect population and its effect upon our ecosystems, the hidden cost of cheap, mass-produced clothing and the environmental impact of dairy produce on personal carbon footprints, as well as advising colleagues around the UK of some of the plants that can nurture more bee-friendly environments.

They have also tackled the topic of sewage on the British coastline, as well as highlighting benefits of solar panel systems, while acting as an advocate for CPC’s contribution to fellow Greater Manchester charity ‘City of Trees’, whose objective to plant as many as possible saw CPC help fund the growth of a hundred new trees in the area.

With sustainability investment and recycling provision inevitably hand-in-hand, the Waste Management Services framework can form a useful part of your sustainability strategy, enhancing your green credentials by ensuring a larger number of applicable materials are recycled rather than rubbished and thus duly aiding the environment.

Of course, not all waste materials are recyclable by nature, but the scope of this procurement framework enables arrangement of the collection and disposal of a number of added categories, including hazardous, chemical and radioactive waste, clinical and pharmaceutical waste and confidential waste. Each of these categories is accounted for in its own dedicated lot, while a 'total waste management' option can serve as a comprehensive waste solution.

As well as proving an appropriate way to dispose of various materials, the Waste Management Services offering in focus can put its incumbent suppliers to work, potentially driving greater value for our member institutions by way of market competition, while adjacently providing direct award avenues for requirements which carry a low monetary value and/or complexity. Direct award can also be utilised for urgent/one-off procurements, with new direct award functionality now on the CPC website (click here to explore and view the framework's User Guide).

Saving you the time and effort of sourcing your own contractors, this framework agreement (as with all offered by CPC) put its composite suppliers through a pre-selection evaluation process, ensuring only approved professionals are part of the framework itself and thus giving a greater peace of mind when putting requirements out to market. Moreover, CPC's connected support, which includes the aforementioned User Guide, plus the CPC Quote Tool and CPC Sourcing Cloud, ensures members have a series of resources to hand when approaching a new procurement.

Launched in June 2023, the Contracting Authority for the Waste Management Services framework is the London Universities Purchasing Consortium (LUPC), but the framework is accessible by all 10,000+ registered members of Crescent Purchasing Consortium, one of a host of partner-led purchasing agreements that fall within this category.

In terms of CPC contacts, it is worth noting this waste management services solution now sits under the auspices of Procurement Manager, Keeley Blackburn, who is contactable via [email protected] (or 0161 974 0964).

With a scheduled end date of 25th June 2026 and a potential extension of one year, we encourage members to visit the framework page for additional details on Waste Management Services and CPC is here to support you across its lifespan, as institutions far and wide look to make Recycle Week each and every week, going forward.
