Meet the CPC Apprentices

Published

CPC welcomed two apprentices to the team in October 2016. Working with Salford College as our training provider, Ryan Glover, is our Web and Marketing Apprentice and Marius Garbenis, is our Contracting Apprentice.

The role of the Web and Marketing Apprentice is to provide support with the development of the CPC websites based around a mixture of core web technologies such as HTML, CSS and PHP. He is also completing a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship Level 3 in line with the National Apprenticeship Scheme.

The Contracting Apprentice provides support with the procurement service to all members including monitoring frameworks and contracts. He is also completing a Business Administration Apprenticeship Level 2 in line with the National Apprenticeship Scheme.

Here at CPC we believe that hiring apprentices is a fantastic way to deliver the skills and qualifications we need for the future.

The benefits for the apprentices themselves is that they have the opportunity to gain the experience and qualifications they need to develop their chosen career. It also combines practical workplace training where they work alongside experienced staff, gain job skills and earn a wage at the same time as gaining a relevant qualification at no cost to them.

Please see below for a Q&A with our apprentices to see how they are finding life at CPC so far…

Ryan Glover – Web and Marketing Apprentice

  • Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
The reason I chose to do an apprenticeship is I feel it’s the best way for me to learn a career as you are working and learning on the job.
  • You’ve been here a few months now, how are you finding it so far and what are you enjoying the most?
I am finding it very good as I have learnt a lot in the time I have been here. I am enjoying the different challenges that I am being given every day.
  • How would you like to see your career develop in web and marketing?
I would like to be a full-time web developer and help update and make changes to websites.
  • What do you think the benefits of being on an apprenticeship are?
The benefits of being on an apprenticeship are everyday learning and doing the role that you want to do, as it is easier to learn if you are doing it every day.
  • Would you recommend your friends to do an apprenticeship?
Yes, I feel it is the perfect start to a successful career.

Marius Garbenis – Contracting Apprentice

  • Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
I decided to do an apprenticeship as it is a good way to gain job experience and an opportunity to learn everything within the workplace. Doing an apprenticeship for me is an alternative route to get a BA degree.
  • You’ve been here a few months now, how are you finding it so far and what are you enjoying the most?
For me the apprenticeship program is kind of easy to comprehend but I do enjoy doing it as it broadens my knowledge within the business environment. I enjoy that I get support from both my employer and the college and if I cannot understand something I will get everything explained in a way that I understand.
  • How would you like to see your career develop in procurement/contracting?

When I started this job at first I did not quite understand all the different elements but in time I’ve grown into the Contracting role and I enjoy what I do here. As an apprentice, I always tend to think of the goal of being offered a full-time position and in time becoming senior in this position.

  • What do you think the benefits of being on an apprenticeship are?
One of the most beneficial things is that you gain work experience doing an apprenticeship and gain knowledge not only from theory but also from practice. Another thing is that you get paid alongside your studies. The apprenticeship helps to build up your confidence in yourself and teaches you how to think on the spot and resolve the issues that come with the role on a day to day basis.
  • Would you recommend your friends to do an apprenticeship?
I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship to a friend as it is one of the best things that happened to me and once they start doing an apprenticeship it will change the way they look at apprenticeships.
