CPC staff extend a helping hand to Manchester park

Published

Representatives of CPC swapped procurement life for park life in early June, with colleagues helping the community effort at leafy Ladybarn Park.

Found in the shadow of suburban south Manchester’s Mauldeth Road rail station, Ladybarn Park is a verdant green lung in the city, with its towering trees and sprawling grass fields offering a peaceful, natural refuge to the communities of Withington, Burnage and Ladybarn itself.

With the Friends of Ladybarn Park giving up their time to help maintain the park and its landscape, CPC staff were delighted to support these inspirational people and their worthy cause, with a volunteering visit forming part of a day of summer team building for our Communications and Engagement section.

On a bright and breezy summer's morning, all ten Communication and Engagement staff were joined at Ladybarn Park by our five Regional Procurement Advisors (RPAs), with Louise Ashcroft (North West), Tracey Hindmarsh (North East & North Yorkshire), Jack Horton (Midlands, Yorkshire & Humberside), Deborah Adesina (East & South East) and Daniel Kinder (South West & Wales) all pitching in as the group restored planters, weeded and picked litter.

"The stories the volunteers have to tell and their passion for their local area is inspiring, I feel very fortunate to have spent the beginning of my day with them", commented CPC Procurement and Customer Engagement Manager, Jack Horton, who called the time "an eye-opening and rewarding experience".

"The people who work at the park do everything from litter picking every day to planting a herb garden for refugees to help them settle in their adopted country. It’s left an impression that I hope stays with me now to be better and do more", added Data Analyst, Joshua Wood, who was among the volunteers.
